"An excellent place to stay in Basel" We greatly enjoyed our stay in Hotel Victoria (for the second time) and can report that it continues a fine tradition of convenience and comfort. We were pleasantly surprised that a free public transit pass was included with the room and the trams are just outside the front door! The lovely decor and modern facilities provide all you could seek, including a very friendly and helpful staff. Our room on the third floor was spacious and quiet, and the bathroom was quite adequate. One complaint--the cable television allows a few seconds of vulgar nudity on a channel or two before telling you that you must choose to pay to watch the filth. The only English language channels were BBC news and CNN, each with a decided anti-American tilt in reporting. However, one does not go to Switzerland to watch television anyway, and we definitely will stay a third time when next we find our way to Basel.

"Great" stayed in this hotel for 1 - month on a business trip to an internationally recognized financial institution. This is a newly renovated hotel with air condition installed in all the Comfort rooms (but not in Standard rooms). The location is excellent, just across from the train station. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful. The only downside is the shower --- water temperature fluctuates quite wildly everytime I shower.
